Tiger
The tiger is the largest of the Big Cats. The tiger is the 3rd largest land meat eater. The tiger is easily recognizable by it's orange coloring and black strips. In the wild the tiger can live up to 20 years and in the zoo the tiger can live up to 26 years. Tiger generally live alone, but can be social when they want to be. Lion
The lion is on of four Big Cats that can Roar. The Lion is one of the biggest Big Cat. It is a little smaller than the tiger. The male lion has a mane of hair around his head that only the male has. The lion is also the only Big Cat that travel in a pack called a pride. In the pride the female lion does the hunting and take care of the young clubs. Lions live from 10 to 14 years in the wild. Cheetah
The cheetah is the fastest cat in the world. The cheetah can run up to 70 to 75 miles per hour. That is faster than a car on a highway. Since the cheetah can run so fast it makes it easier for the cheetah to hunt. The cheetah is also one of the very few mammals that can retract it's claws. Leopard
The Leopard is the the fourth smallest Big Cat. The leopard looks a lot like the jaguar, but they are very different from each other. The leopard is one of the only Big Cats that will take what it killed up into a tree to eat it. The coats of the leopard are all look the same but are different. The leopards mostly hunt at night. Clouded Leopard
The clouded leopard are really great climbers. The clouded leopard is known to be able to climb down trees head first. The clouded leopard can live up to 11 years in the wild and up to 17 years in the zoo. The clouded leopard is not seen in the wild much. Snow Leopard
The snow leopard is a very rare leopard that lives in the mountains. The snow leopard has wide furry feet that help it walk on the snow and act as snow shoes. The snow leopards live high in the mountains and rarely comes down. The snow leopard will use its tail to cover it's self in the cold weather to keep warm. In the wild snow leopards live up to 15 to 18 years. In the zoo they can live up to 21 years. (National Geographic)
Jaguar
The jaguar looks a lot like the leopard, but if you look closely at the coats they have different marking. The jaguar also can be black instead of the orange color that you normally see. The Jaguar can live up to 12 to 15 years in the wild. In the zoo the jaguar can live up to 23 years. Unlike most Big Cats the jaguar does not avoid water, but are very good swimmers. The caracal are easily recognizable for their ears. The caracal has black tuft of fur on their ears. The carcacal is closely related to the lynx, but is not considered apart of the lynx family. Unlike a lot of Big Cats the caracal has a small tail instead of a long tail that is mostly used for balance. The caracal can live up to 12 years in the wild and up to 17 years in the zoo. Cougar
The cougar is also known as the puma and mountain lion. The cougar hunts at night and is very territorial. The cougar likes to be on it's own and will stay away form people. Cougars are very protective of their young and will fight off anything that tries to harm their clubs. In the wild a cougar can live up to 8 to 13 years old. Ocelot
The ocelot mostly hunts at night and will hunt in the trees where it lives. The ocelot also likes to swim like the jaguar and will not avoid the water. Lynx
The lynx looks a lot like the bob cat, but they are different animals. The lynx has a short tail like the caracal and large feet that help it to walk on the snow. Also like the carcacal the lynx has tufts of black hair on it's ears. The lynx likes to hunt at night like most Big Cats and are rarely seen. Bob Cat
The bob cat is closely related to the lynx and looks a lot like the lynx. The bob cat like to hunt at night and is rarely seen by humans. The bob cat also have tufted ears like the lynx and the caracal. The bob cat has a longer tail then the lynx, but gets it's name because the tail looks like it has been cut or bobbed off. The tail is about half the size of a normal cat tail. In the wild the bob cat can live up to 8 to 10 years. in the zoo the bob cat can live up to 30 years. (National Geographic)
